A Note from our Nature Staff

Before you start your spring yard cleanup, please consider overwintering insects!
You can help protect fireflies by 1) leave the leaves as long as possible, 2) rake carefully, 3) plant native shrubs, trees and flowers, 3) providing tall grasses for shelter and 4) try to avoid the use of pesticides.
Help preserve the magical glow of fireflies & many other insects by waiting with spring cleanup until temperatures are above 50 degrees for 7 days in a row.

Westport Hosts 7th Flood Mitigation Meeting

On January 26, Westport officials hosted its 7th meeting to discuss flood mitigation in town.

Successful Student Symposium on Dec 1

Eleven high school students, from seven towns across Fairfield County, presented their Stony Brook water research findings from the Harbor Watch River Research Program on December 1 at Earthplace.

2022 Harbor Watch Reports Available Now

View the 2022 Fairfield County River Report and Harbor Health Study. In the 2022 monitoring season, 22 rivers and 7 harbors were monitored for a variety of water quality parameters. Seasonal summaries as well as individual watershed summaries can be found in each of the reports. Thank you for your support in our fight for clean water!

Aspetuck Land Trust recently installed a sign, created by local naturalist/artist team Linda Thomas and Don Watson, at Earthplace that highlights the value of native plants and the species that depend on them to survive all year round. ⁣🍂

Bear 211

Tony Aiello from CBS spoke with Ms. Becky about the tragic passing of Bear 211 and how we can better coexist with wildlife. Bear 211 was a wild bear with quite the social media following. Thousands tracked his travels and exploits on Facebook as he roamed CT.
