River Research Program (RRP)

All RRPs are free!

Each season presents different versions of the RRP, please read the descriptions carefully and email harborwatch@earthplace.org with any questions. Dates and times are subject to change depending on staffing availability.

Spring Virtual RRP

Dates: March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Time: 3-4pm
Capacity: 4-50 High School Students

Students will get the opportunity to learn remotely from Harbor Watch staff. The program includes weekly discussions on water quality and related topics and an optional in-person student field day to collect and analyze water samples.

Summer In-Person RRP

Dates: June 26-29
Session 1: 10am-12pm
Session 2: 1pm-3pm
Capacity: 6 students per session

Work with a member of Harbor Watch staff to see what a day in the life of an environmental water quality scientist is like. This program will include collecting data in the field, practicing proper laboratory techniques, and exploring ecological survey methods. This program will meet in person at Earthplace.

Fall Virtual RRP

Capacity: 4-50 High School Students

Students will get the opportunity to learn remotely from Harbor Watch staff. The program includes weekly discussions on water quality and related topics and an optional in-person student field day to collect and analyze water samples.

Fall In-person RRP

Session 1: Oct 17, 24, 31 and Nov 7, 14, 28 and Dec 7
Session 2: Oct 18, 25 and Nov 1, 8, 15, 29 and Dec 7
Session 3: Oct 19, 26 and Nov 2, 9, 16, 30 and Dec 7
Time: 3:30-5:30pm
Capacity: 6 High School Students per session

Get the chance to work as a team with fellow students from schools throughout Fairfield County to analyze a local waterway for bacteria and nutrient pollution while learning field and laboratory skills, data analysis, and presentation skills. This program concludes with the opportunity to present at a symposium attended by community members (12/1). This program will meet in person at Earthplace.

Bridgeport Virtual RRP

Students will get the opportunity to learn remotely from Harbor Watch staff. The program includes weekly virtual discussions on water quality and related topics with a focus on local waterways in Bridgeport and student field day to collect and analyze water samples Registration open to students attending Bridgeport high schools only.
