Lecture and Q&A: In the Ground, On your Mind

October 12, 2023 @ 6:00 pm

Topic: In the Ground, On your Mind

International Archaeology Day is in October! Find out what archaeologists do with Nadia Waski, who specializes in the northeast region and Native American cultural history. Her talk will delve into how cultural resource management (CRM) benefits us as a growing and changing society. What is CRM? It’s a process that says two values can coexist: progress and the protection of important cultural heritage.

Speaker: Nadia Waski is an associate project archaeologist with SWCA Environmental Consultants, conducting cultural resources compliance under the National Historic Preservation Act (Sections 106 and 110) and for state-level reviews. She has 4 years of professional experience in the public sector. She was trained in the Technical Services Division at the Massachusetts Historical Commission, where she transitioned into a preservation planner/archaeologist role. Her focus is on Native American cultural history in the Northeast, specifically Native American culture of the Contact Period in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Ms. Waski has supervised and conducted fieldwork across Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Georgia, New Mexico, and California. Since joining SWCA, she has worked on numerous projects across the Northeast and the United States, focusing on Native American site identification and analysis.
