Meet Freckle, our eastern screech owl with a lot to say and a talent for staying just out of sight. Freckle is almost five years old and arrived at Earthplace as a juvenile after falling from her nest. She was rescued with a fractured left foot, which healed but left her with limited grip strength. While she has partial flight, her injury means she can’t live independently in the wild.

Freckle is a red morph eastern screech owl—a less common color variation, as many screech owls are gray. Because she’s small and exceptionally good at hiding, Freckle lives indoors in Animal Hall.

Freckle is nocturnal, observant, and a little bit sassy. She loves a good game of hide-and-seek and is especially skilled at blending into her surroundings. From a safe distance, she keeps a close watch on everyone who passes by—always curious, sometimes shy, and never missing a thing.
