Meet Chatty and Cerena, a pair of rescued bald eagles who found a safe haven together after injuries left them unable to survive in the wild. When you sponsor this duo, you help give them the specialized care and environment they need to thrive together.
Meet Ladybird, our charismatic great horned owl who arrived at Earthplace in 2006 after an eye injury—most likely from a car strike. Because she’s missing an eye, her depth perception makes flying difficult, and she now serves as a permanent ambassador for her species.
Meet Duchess, our mesmerizing great horned owl who arrived as a juvenile in 2021 with a wing and eye injury. The people who found her held on to her for a month before bringing her to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Unfortunately, during that crucial month, her wing set improperly, leaving her permanently unable to fly.
Meet Freckle, our eastern screech owl with a lot to say and a talent for staying just out of sight. Freckle is almost five years old and arrived at Earthplace as a juvenile after falling from her nest. She was rescued with a fractured left foot, which healed but left her with limited grip strength. While she has partial flight, her injury means she can’t live independently in the wild.
Meet Marble and Moody, our devoted pair of bonded barred owls. Marble was rescued in 2012 after being found along a Connecticut highway, while Moody joined the Earthplace family in 2013 after an injury required the removal of her right eye. Today, these two are usually found quietly perched side by side.
Meet Artemis, our majestic red-tailed hawk who joined Earthplace in early 2020 after she was found by the side of the road with fractures in her left wing that left her permanently unable to fly. She helps educate people about red-tailed hawks and the importance of wildlife conservation.
Meet Belfry, our resident big brown bat who came to Earthplace in 2023 after being found with an injured wing and tail. Because he can’t fully extend his tail, he’s unable to fly—and Earthplace has become his permanent home.
Meet Peanut, our fluffy Angora rabbit who came to Earthplace in 2022 after he and his brother Butter were surrendered as pets. Peanut is the curious one—always the first to hop over and investigate, and just as quickly the first to dart off again when he decides it’s time to play.
Meet Butter, Peanut's equally fluffy brother, who arrived at Earthplace in 2022 after the pair was surrendered as pets. Butter is on the shy side, but once he feels safe, he enjoys gentle cuddles and quiet company.
Meet Pablo, an eastern painted turtle with a bright personality and a story that reminds us why wild animals belong in the wild. Taken from his natural habitat as a baby and raised as a pet, Pablo never learned how to survive on his own and cannot be released into the wild.
Meet Lotus, our northern diamondback terrapin who came to Earthplace after spending her first ten years as an improperly kept pet—taken from the wild as a baby by someone who thought they were helping. Now she lives in a habitat designed for her species, where she can swim laps, bask in her sunroom, and keep a close eye on everything happening around her.
Meet Zeke, one of our long-time residents and a beloved member of the Earthplace family. Zeke arrived in 1992 after being hit by a car in the wild, an injury that left him missing several toes and unable to safely return to his natural habitat.
Meet Banana, a friendly ball python who arrived at Earthplace in 2015 as a surrendered pet. Because exotic reptiles require highly specific environments and long-term commitment, many well-meaning owners find themselves unable to care for them.
Meet Mocha, one of our resident green frogs and longtime roommate to fellow frog Matcha. Mocha was born right here at Earthplace and has grown into a cautious little hopper with a talent that keeps her keepers on their toes: she is an escape artist.
Meet Matcha, Mocha’s fellow green frog and terrarium roommate. Like Mocha, Matcha was born here at Earthplace, but the two couldn’t have more different personalities. Where Mocha is shy and spring-loaded, Matcha is the chill, go-with-the-flow frog of the pair.
Meet Bob and Janet—the collective name for our colony of Madagascar hissing cockroaches. This lively group came to Earthplace as a donation and has become a staple in our education programs. They help us teach visitors about insects, adaptations, and misunderstood species.
Aragog came to Earthplace as a surrendered pet and has fully made this space her own, spending her days doing the things that come naturally to her—tucking into her hide, keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings, and digging impressive tunnels.
