The Earthplace After-school Enrichment Program provides a bridge between school and home that connects students with nature in a meaningful way. It also assures working parents that their childhas a seamless transition from school to an afternoon of fun and learning. Kids unplug from the electronic world and plug in to the natural world. Our 74-acre sanctuary, live animal exhibits, and interactive nature museum offer an unparalleled opportunity for nature discovery and environmental learning.
Natureplace is our museum room filled with interactive areas to explore the wonders of nature. Highlights are the wildlife dioramas depicting different ecosystems in Connecticut in different seasons: Spring woodlands, summer seashore, fall meadow, and life underground.
Get up close to wildlife in the Animal Hall and the outdoor Connecticut Birds of Prey exhibit. Examine the beautiful Connecticut Wall of Nature, a tile wall of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and plants that are found in Connecticut.
Take a walk on our 62-acre property on one of the trails, including the wheelchair-accessible Wheels in the Woods IV, a universal design nature trail. Try our fun trail activities, including letterboxes, tree ID, and word hunting.
Other facilities include picnic tables, a slide, large recreation field, a children's playground available after 6:00 pm and on weekends, and restrooms.
