Summer Undergraduate Internship:

 

Time Frame – May through August (annually) 

 

Capacity – 4-6 Undergraduates Students 

 

Summary – Immerse yourself in a scientific internship like no other, participate in ongoing research projects varying in scope from instream and storm sewer water quality testing and public beach water testing to dissolved oxygen profile surveys and demersal fish studies. Through on-the-job training, interns are taught proper field and laboratory techniques using state-of-the-art equipment in a State of Connecticut-certified laboratory. No prior experience is necessary, but interns must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of conditions.

Fall Internship:

 

Time Frame – September through December

 

Capacity – 7 High School Students Per Session (3 Sessions; Tuesday, Wednesday and TBA)

 

Summary – Get the chance to work as a team with fellow students from schools throughout Fairfield County to analyze a local waterway for bacteria and nutrient pollution while learning field and laboratory skills, data analysis, and presentation skills. This program concludes with the opportunity to present at a symposium, attended by community members including teachers, municipal officials, and commercial oystermen.

Summer Fish Study:

 

Time Frame – May - August

 

Capacity – 6 Students per session (you may sign up for as many or as few sessions as you like)

 

Summary – Join us and serve as crew onboard our research vessel, Annie, a converted oyster scow set up to trawl for fish and other organisms dwelling in the lower portion of the water column of Norwalk Harbor. Perform tasks onboard ranging from recording coordinates to sorting the day’s catch! No experience necessary, but must be comfortable onboard a boat.

Summer Educational Experience:

 

 

Time Frame – Two weeks in July (dates TBA)

 

Capacity – 7 High School Students

 

Summary – Spend each day immersed in science research projects and gain firsthand experiences in possible career options. This is a curriculum-based program and includes data collection, laboratory analysis, ecological surveys, and field trips to local businesses that use water quality practices in their day to day activities.

  Senior Internship Program:

 

Time Frame – Final Month of School Year

 

Capacity – 7 High School Students

 

Summary – Spend 25 hours each week immersed in science research projects and gain firsthand experiences in possible career options. This is a curriculum-based program and will include data collection, laboratory analysis, ecological surveys, and field trips to local businesses that use water quality practices in their day to day activities.
